The 2004 Providence Heart & Sole Women’s Five Miler
The third annual Heart & Sole Five Miler brought the most beautiful weather yet. Although temperatures were warm by the time everyone finished, the sky was blue and there wasn’t a drop of rain in sight! (For those of you who were with us the first year when it rained four inches in three hours, you can appreciate our delight!)
Even though our numbers continue to grow year after year, I’m always struck by the personal nature of this event. The powerful stories you share with us about why you participate make our efforts so rewarding. Some of you made healthy lifestyle changes and chose to celebrate with us by walking your first five-mile event. Some of you brought your daughters to show them the power of healthy living. Many of you walked or ran in honor of a loved one lost to heart disease. And the strength of our elite runners inspired us all.
To me, each one of you is beautiful. Looking out on the sea of pink tank tops at the start line this year, I felt a real sense of unity and sisterhood. Our goal is to make each one of feel special. I hope we did that. We would be honored for you to join us again on May 14, 2005, when we once again celebrate the power of women and a healthy lifestyle.
Until next year…stay healthy, and keep moving! Jeanna
